If you need a Nordstrom W‑2, identify the tax year and request the document through the employer’s current process. If you are a former employee, say so immediately and ask for the former employee delivery or access procedure. Do not assume that an old mynordstrom login must be restored before the request can proceed.
The employer’s obligation to furnish a W‑2 is separate from your ability to use a particular portal. IRS guidance covers both current and former employees. See IRS Topic 752.
Name the tax year, not just the delivery year
A form received during one year ordinarily reports wages from the previous tax year. “My 2026 W‑2” can therefore be ambiguous: do you mean the form received in 2026 or the form reporting earnings during 2026?
Use the tax year printed on the document or the year of wages you need. If you worked across multiple years, list each missing year separately.
For example, “I need the W‑2 reporting my 2025 wages” gives the employer a clearer request than “Please resend my latest tax form.”
Explain what is actually missing
Choose the description that fits:
| Situation | Request to make |
|---|---|
| You never received the form | Ask how and when it was furnished, and how to obtain a copy |
| You lost a previously received form | Request a replacement copy for the specified tax year |
| You cannot access the employee system | Ask for the appropriate alternative or former employee process |
| The document contains an error | Identify the field and request review for a corrected form |
| You moved | Ask how to verify or update the delivery address securely |
A document-access problem and a document-content problem may require different follow-up. Explain both if they occur together.
Former employees should focus on delivery
Prepare your former work location, approximate employment dates, requested tax year, and a safe way for the employer to respond. Ask what identity verification is required and where to complete it.
Do not place a Social Security number or identity document into an ordinary message merely to make the request appear complete. Wait for the verified process.
Avoid borrowing a current employee’s account or asking someone to download confidential records through access they should not use. Your request should identify you as the person entitled to the document.
Follow the IRS route if the form remains missing
The IRS says to contact the employer when a W‑2 is missing or incorrect. If the issue remains unresolved by the end of February, its guidance provides an IRS assistance route. It also explains when Form 4852 may be used and what to do if a later W‑2 differs from the figures used to file. Follow the applicable instructions rather than substituting a pay statement without that process. See IRS Topic 154.
Dates should be checked for the relevant filing season. For 2025 wage statements furnished in 2026, the IRS listed February 2, 2026 as the furnishing deadline. That date should not be copied into a guide for a different tax year. IRS Topic 752
Keep a record of the request
Save the request date, response, delivery method, and any case reference. When the document arrives, check that the tax year and identity details match the request.
For an underlying wage discrepancy, use the paycheck questions guide. For a technical barrier during an otherwise valid retrieval process, use the access troubleshooting guide.
